TRACECA and ECAC: new horizons of cooperation in the field of civil aviation

On January 24, 2024, a bilateral meeting between the Permanent Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Commission TRACECA and the European Civil Aviation Conference was held via videoconferencing.

During the meeting Mr. Assavbayev. A.A, Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA and Ms. Reverdy P., ECAC Executive Secretary exchanged views on the activities of the organisations and prospects of cooperation.

In particular, the Secretary General informed Ms. Reverdy about two previously held TRACECA courses on training of national experts in the field of aviation security and cyber security, organised by the UK Civil Aviation Authority (UK CAA). Considering the positive experience, the Secretary General expressed his wish to apply this practice of professional development together with the ECAC in the future.

In order to further exchange experience, the Parties also agreed on the possibility of organising a seminar for aviation security professionals with a focus on the experience of introducing artificial intelligence (AI) in the civil aviation.

As a result of the meeting, it was also agreed to prepare a joint action plan with the ECAC and TRACECA countries for the next 5 years, focusing on the issues of reducing the environmental impact of the aviation sector in order to ensure sustainable development.

At the end of the meeting, Ms. Reverdy P., ECAC Executive Secretary invited Mr. Assavbayev A.A., Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA to participate in the ECAC General Assembly to be held on July 04, 2024 for further discussion of cooperation perspectives within the previously concluded Memorandum.

•    TRACECA and signed a Memorandum of Understanding on September 17,2013 in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
•    The European Civil Aviation Conference, ECAC is an intergovernmental organisation established by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the Council of Europe. The ECAC promotes the continuous development of a safe, efficient and stable European air transport system.
