TRACECA and OTIF: strengthening cooperation in the field of international rail transport

During the exchange of views, the sides discussed the possibility of signing the Memorandum of Cooperation and areas of mutual interest. The Memorandum envisages joint development of trade and economic relations in the Eurasian space with the aim to simplify trade procedures by improving rail transport.

The Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA, Mr. Assavbayev A.A. touched upon the problem of safety improvement in the transportation of dangerous goods, the possibility to ensure a coordinated and harmonised approach to the issues of digitalisation in the OTIF legal system and in the OSJD legal system, other modes of transport and customs, and also asked to consider the possibility to participate in the work on piloting the electronic CIM/SMGS consignment note on the selected TRACECA routes.
 
Expressing his interest, OTIF Secretary General, Mr. Wolfgang Küpper noted that he is following the latest developments on the Middle Corridor and is aware of the studies according to the published World Bank report.

Along with this, the sides also discussed the upcoming session of the UNECE Inland Transport Committee, which will be held from 20 to 23 February 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland.
