TRACECA took part in an online conference on the establishment of a regional center for transport diplomacy in Dushanbe

On July 12, 2023, within the framework of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development of the United Nations ECOSOC in New York, a parallel event dedicated to the establishment of a regional center for transport diplomacy in Dushanbe, Republic of Tajikistan was held via web conferencing.

On behalf of the organizers of the event, the Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the UN, H.E. Mr. Jonibek Hikmat, Minister of Transport of Tajikistan, H.E. Mr. Azim Ibrohim, Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA, Mr. Assavbayev A.A., ICTD Executive Secretary, Mr. Runov I.B. and others made opening remarks. In addition, the Deputy Secretary General of UNOHRLLS, Ms. Rabab Fatima, made a video address to the participants of the meeting.

At this event, the initiative of the Republic of Tajikistan to establish a regional center for transport diplomacy (RCTD) in Dushanbe was presented in order to achieve strong global partnerships and cooperation through the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development SDGs.

During the panel sessions, the speakers shared information about the stages of implementation of this initiative and the importance of human resources development, new approaches to the organization of professional education/training in transport related areas.

In his turn, the Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA, Mr. Assavbayev A.A. shared his positive experience in work with the Global Transit Document prototype and welcomed the opening of the RCTD, the activities of which directly coincide with the tasks defined by the IGC TRACECA to the Permanent Secretariat.

"... the establishment of a regional center will also have a positive impact on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, promotion of multimodal transport, which is especially important for the TRACECA corridor, which actively uses transportation of goods by several modes of transport due to its geographical extent from the countries of Central Asia to the countries of the European Union via two seas.
The Permanent Secretariat is ready to work together on new solutions and proposals for logistics both from the research side and from the practical application side,"
– Mr. Assavbayev A.A. highlighted during welcoming speech.

Within the framework of the presentations demonstrated, a member of the ICTD Board, Ms. Juliette Passer and ICTD Leading expert presented to the participants the main advantages of the ICTD in New York.

"We have developed a variety of training formats, both virtually and on campus: 3-day accelerated courses for managers, 7-day course for practical study of Transport Diplomacy in New York, full semester courses suitable for university environments, bachelor's and master's degrees, a full academic year of semester 2. In addition, additional courses and an expanded fifth edition of the textbook are being considered," – Ms. Passer noted.
