On the 4th of May, 2012, Memorandum of Intentions “on the Intention of the Construction of the Railway to the “Zvartnots” International Airport” was signed at the Ministry of Transport and Communication of Armenia
The Memorandum was signed by the Ministry of Transport and Communication of Armenia, “South Caucasus Railway” CJSC and “Armenia International Airports” CJSC.
Following the aim to ensure the growing volumes of the passenger and cargo transportation to the “Zvartnots” International Airport, Parties expressed their intention to construct the mentioned railway within the framework of the Public-Private Partnership in the shortest possible timeframes. “Armenia International Airports” CJSC has ordered the design of the railway construction to the Airport.
The strategic program of the Government of the Republic of Armenia on approximation of the transport infrastructures to the “Zvartnots” International Airport, the international logistic center and the free economic zone in the adjacent territory served as basis to sign the Memorandum.
The new railway alignment has been developed, which will connect the city of Yerevan to the passenger and cargo complex of the “Zvartnots” International Airport with an express train. Its total length is approximately 7.5 km. The approximate cost of the alignment construction without the alienation zone is around 5 million USD.
