Global Transit Document (GTrD) - a universal digital solution in the development of multimodal transport

On 8 June 2021 the Presentation of the prototype of the Global Transit Document and the pilot project along the TRACECA route took place.

This event was the result of the active efforts of the International Center for Transport Diplomacy, the Intergovernmental Council of Road Administrations, IBM Corporation, TradeLens and the TRACECA countries that participated in the development of the Concept of the Global Transit Document (GTrD).

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, the Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN, representatives of the World Customs Organization, the World Bank, the International TITR Association, TRACECA member states and other representatives of international organizations expressed interest in the Global Transit Document (GTrD) initiative and participation in the Presentation of the prototype.

The participants of the Presentation were shown a video of the IBM corporation on the topic “Ensuring Intellectual, End-to-End Visibility and Transparency”.

In turn, the speakers - Dr. Igor Runov, ICTD Executive Secretary, and Carlina Marani, Business Development Executive, TradeLens Europe & MEA Global Trade, IBM Blockchain, presented the main elements and mechanisms of GTrD implementation.
Dr. Alexander Zaboev, Leading Expert of ICTD, and Martin Cies, Managing Consultant | Blockchain | TradeLens Onboarding, presented information “On the organization in 2021 of pilot multimodal transportations using GTrD.

During the Presentation, an exchange of views and a question / answer session took place, within which the meeting participants supported the main conceptual approaches to the implementation of pilot transportations using the Global Transit Document.

Following the results of the Presentation, the participants expressed their interest in obtaining a revised Concept on the Global Transit Document and a description of the pilot project for consideration by authorized state bodies and organizations. The Working Group on the Global Transit Document and IBM / TradeLens will prepare a pilot project description within two weeks.

Along with that, the Permanent Secretariat would contact the interested countries in order to obtain an official position of the country on its intention to participate in pilot transportations planned for the end of 2021.

The Permanent Secretariat hopes that this initiative will be supported by the interested countries at the Annual Meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission TRACECA.
