The Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA participates in the Eighty-Fifth Session of the Inland Transport Committee of the UNECE
On February 21-24, 2023, the Eighty-Fifth Session of the UNECE Inland Transport Committee is being held in Geneva (Switzerland), during which the issues of the inland transport sector's actions to join the global fight against climate change and strategic issues of horizontal and intersectoral policy are discussed.
Special attention was paid to the issues of intermodal, rail, road transport and logistics, digitalization and intelligent transport systems, intensification of work on border crossing facilitation (TIR Convention, eTIR project, eCMR, Harmonization Convention and other measures to facilitate border crossing and customs transit), as well as transport statistics, which are also being worked on within the framework of TRACECA.
It should be noted that the initiatives of the Permanent Secretariat, especially on digitalization of transport documents, play an important role in ensuring the environmental friendliness of international transport of goods and the further development of multimodal transport in 13 TRACECA countries.
During the session, on February 23, 2023, a meeting was held between the Secretary General of the Permanent Secretariat of the IGC TRACECA, Mr. Asset Assavbayev and the Secretary General of the International Road Transport Union, Mr. Umberto de Pretto. The objective of the meeting is to further develop cooperation between two organizations.
The key topic of the meeting was the discussion of prospects for further cooperation within the framework of the pilot implementation of eTIR, eCMR in TRACECA countries, including the study of the possibility of using TIR-EPD data when working with eCMR, as well as a joint evaluation of checkpoints’ performance located along TRACECA routes to prepare recommendations and analyse the routes’ attractiveness.
During the meeting, Mr. A. Assavbayev expressed his gratitude for the IRU active assistance and contribution to the development of the international transport corridor TRACECA and presented Mr. U. Pretto with the TRACECA badge.
On the same day, a meeting was also held between the Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA and the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the UN in Geneva, during which issues of the application of international agreements adopted within the framework of the UN, as well as current TRACECA initiatives, were discussed.
