UzbekistanOn 27-28 June 2011 Mr. Eduard Biriucov, Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA made an official visit to the Republic of Turkmenistan
During his visit, Mr. E. Biriucov had several meetings with officials of Turkmenistan, particularly, Mr. Nazarguly Shagulyev, Deputy Chairman of Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Turkmenistan, and Mr. Vepa Khadzhiev, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkmenistan. The Parties discussed a wide range of issues on development of transport and transit potential of the country, international transport cooperation of Turkmenistan with the countries of the TRACECA region, as well as further steps to promote the active integration and participation of Turkmenistan in the TRACECA activities.
During his official visit, Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA took part in the international seminar of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) "Secure trade and road transport facilitation". Participants discussed the key issues ensuring the development of road transport - identification of unused transport capacity, the impact of harmonized legal framework on traffic flows, the role of international conventions in promoting and ensuring the safety of international trade and road transport, as well as factors affecting the competitiveness of merchandising and transport corridors.
Within his speech, Secretary General dwelled upon the issues of TRACECA current activities, including the development of international road transport, introduced TRACECA aims and objectives, historical events and achievements of the past as well as the future plans to the participants of the meeting. A special emphasis was placed on the issues related to the participation of the Republic of Turkmenistan in TRACECA programme.
