Further steps in the development of the TRACECA corridor were discussed with the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia

On August 11, 2021, during the meeting of Mr. Asset Assavbayev, Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA, with Mr. Gnel Sanosyan, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia, views were exchanged on the main issues on the development of the TRACECA corridor, the implementation of plans and tasks provided for in the Strategy until 2026.

The participants of the meeting discussed priority projects and key initiatives to improve the competitiveness of transport corridor, as well as issues of further development of cooperation with the European Union.

The Secretary General informed about the activities of the Permanent Secretariat in such areas as the development of road transport along the TRACECA routes, digitalization, simplification of border crossing procedures, introduction of electronic transport documents, etc., and also noted the importance of unblocking all economic and transport links in the region as soon as possible.

The Minister expressed the readiness for cooperation on priority issues of TRACECA, and also pointed out the importance of further deepening of relations with the European Union’s institutions.

Mr. Assavbayev also informed about the results of his visit to Brussels in June of this year, during which bilateral meetings and a round table were held with the participation of representatives of the European Commission and diplomatic missions of the TRACECA countries. The main objective of the visit is to coordinate efforts of the TRACECA countries, taking into consideration the implementation of partnership strategies with the countries of Central Asia, the Eastern Partnership and other country programmes of the European Union.

On the outcome of the meeting, the participants agreed to continue active cooperation in the implementation of initiatives and development of the TRACECA corridor, and also expressed hope for a meeting within the upcoming Annual Meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission TRACECA.

A meeting with Mr. Armen Simonyan, Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia, National Secretary of the Permanent Secretariat of TRACECA in the Republic of Armenia was also held, during which the participants discussed in more detail the issues of the upcoming Meeting of the Permanent Secretariat, as well as exchanged views on the digitalization of the TRACECA corridor within the framework of the Digital Concept being developed and on the further organization of training courses for national experts in the field of transport.  

In his turn, Mr. Simonyan expressed support for the work carried out by the Permanent Secretariat and thanked for the attention paid to improving the competitiveness of the corridor and qualifications.
