TRACECA at InnoTrans 2026: Focus on Innovation and Partnership
From 22 to 24 September 2026, in Berlin, Mr. Jasurbek Choriev, Secretary General of the Permanent Secretariat of the IGC TRACECA, visited InnoTrans 2026, the world's largest international exhibition of transport technologies and mobility. This venue traditionally serves as a key global platform for discussing the development and modernisation of railway and transport infrastructure.
TRACECA's participation in industry forums of this scale contributes to the consistent integration of Europe-the Caucasus-Asia corridor into the international logistics system. Engagement at such platforms allows the Permanent Secretariat to monitor current technological trends, study experience in process automation, and develop direct contacts with leading market players.
During the visit, Mr. Jasurbek Choriev paid particular attention to strengthening partnerships with international institutions and expert circles. On the sidelines of the exhibition, a meeting was held with Richard Dion, Senior Advisor of the CONNEX Support Unit (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit – GIZ), during which potential areas of cooperation were discussed. In addition, the working programme included consultations on regional development with Peteris Ustubs, Director for Asia and the Pacific at the Directorate-General for International Partnerships of the European Commission (DG INTPA). Developing dialogue with these institutions opens additional opportunities to attract European investment and relevant expertise for infrastructure modernisation projects in the corridor's member states.
As part of the business programme, the Secretary General took part in a number of specialised summits and expert discussions organised by leading European transport associations, including Deutsche Bahn AG and the Deutsches Verkehrsforum (DVF). These events focused primarily on the technological transformation of the railway industry, improving the efficiency of multimodal transport, and developing high-performance infrastructure.
During the visit to the exhibition pavilions, the Head of the Permanent Secretariat also familiarised himself with advanced technological solutions and developments by leading global manufacturers of rolling stock and transport systems. Studying these technologies is important for establishing unified digitalisation and automation standards for logistics procedures along the entire length of TRACECA routes.
Participation in InnoTrans 2026 enabled the Permanent Secretariat TRACECA to study current international practices for overcoming infrastructure constraints, lay the groundwork for further technological synchronisation, and support the introduction of modern approaches along the corridor's routes.
Background:
InnoTrans is the world's largest international industry exhibition of transport technologies, held every two years in Berlin. The exhibition is traditionally divided into five key segments: railway technology, railway infrastructure, public transport, interiors, and tunnel construction. The exhibition serves as the main global platform for showcasing innovation and concluding strategic agreements in the rail transport sector.
The forum regularly sets records in terms of scale. For instance, the previous InnoTrans 2024 exhibition, held under the slogan "Future of Mobility," brought together around 3,000 exhibitors from 59 countries and attracted more than 170,000 visitors, recording the leading trends toward digital transformation, the implementation of artificial intelligence, and environmentally friendly technologies in the transport sector.
