14.06.2016

On 1 June 2016 within Twelfth Annual Meeting of the IGC TRACECA, Ms. Maria Magdalena Grigore, Head of Delegation, and National Secretary of the IGC TRACECA in Romania expressed its gratitude to the Republic of Turkey for the good cooperation over the last year, during their Presidency of TRACECA.

Ms. Grigore expressed her confidence that all the projects started with the PS IGC TRACECA during Turkish presidency will continue under Ukraine presidency.

During her speech, she stressed the great work done within the preparation and unanimously adoption of the “Strategy for development of the international transport corridor Europe-the Caucasus-Asia for the period of 2016-2021” within this IGC meeting

Ms. Grigore emphasized that as both EU and TRACECA member, Romania expresses its concerns regarding the lack of future perspectives of the European Commission regarding technical assistance projects in TRACECA. In particular, it was noted that there are bilateral discussions for specific infrastructure projects in each country within Easter Partnership with the signatory countries of the Association Agreement (Ukraine, Republic of Moldova, Georgia) and this fact doesn’t contribute to the development of the EU – China connectivity Platform;

Ms. Grigore added that EU needs a multilateral approach for solving the EU – China connectivity Platform and TRACECA is one of those partners which gathers all countries into a Corridor connecting EU to world big consumers and producers.

Within the speech it was mentioned that as a proactive partner in regional cooperation, TRACECA in this actual international context, is called upon to assume an important role with regards to the regional dialogue on transport.

As TRACECA member-country, Ms. Grigore also underlined commitment of Romania to support transport safety and security in the sectors of civil aviation, maritime and land transport, as well as to facilitate transport, investments and partnership between the countries along the Corridor.
