TRACECA took part in the Workshop on the development of transport corridors and prospects for improving transport between the countries participating in the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA)

An exchange of views of the Workshop participants took place in the videoconference mode, on 16 September 2021. The representatives of the leadership of the Ministries and departments of the CICA countries, including Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, etc., as well as interested representatives of transport and logistics in the region participated actively in the Workshop.

The Workshop participants discussed the measures taken by the CICA member states to respond to new challenges in the transport industry under pandemic, the optimization of the transport process in order to improve the quality of transportation and reduce transport costs, increase the attractiveness of the CICA international transport corridors, the prospects for cooperation between the CICA countries and joint activities in the field of transport.

Speakers made presentations on possible regional and international cooperation in the transport and logistics sector, ensuring sustainable transport connections in the region of Europe and Asia, and also heard statements from the countries’ representatives regarding the development of international transport corridors.

During his speech, Mr Asset Assavbayev, Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA, noted the main initiatives aimed at containerization, digitalization, improvement of border crossing procedures, introduction of electronic documents, harmonization of requirements for road vehicles. - Particular attention was paid to the initiatives aimed at the development of the corridor on the principles of "harmonization" and "continuity", including the Agreement on Single Transit Document, the Methodology for Evaluating Check Points of the TRACECA countries, the TRACECA Digital Concept, the main goal of which is to minimize the time and financial costs in the transportation between the countries of Europe and Asia.

In addition, the Secretary General also emphasized the importance of working on border crossing procedures, as the future of transport corridors depends on coordinated work at the borders. At the same time, within the framework of the speech, it was also noted that within the framework of TRACECA, work is being carried out on the mutual recognition of the results of border controls and the creation of conditions for the introduction of the "one border-one stop" principle.

The implementation of the announced initiatives and plans will allow increasing the competitiveness of transportation between the countries of Eurasia, thereby simplifying the processes of transportation of goods among the CICA country. I am sure that by joint efforts TRACECA will continue its development and will serve for the benefit of interregional cooperation”, emphasized TRACECA Secretary General Asset Asavbayev at the end of his speech.

The Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) is an international forum uniting the states of the Asian continent, which sets itself the task of strengthening relations and cooperation between Asian states in order to ensure stability and security in the region. The idea of convening the Conference was first presented by the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev at the 47th session of the UN General Assembly in October 1992.
