TRACECA “Road Safety II” Project was launched

The overall objective of the project is to support the implementation of the TRACECA Regional Road Safety Action Plan, ensuring that the corridor transport system actively promotes the safety, security and protection of users, property, general public and the environment that might be involved in or affected by this system.

Taking into consideration the results of the LTSS I (Land Transport Safety & Security) Project the current activities of the regional project will be focused on specific requirements and assistance to the beneficiary countries in the development and implementation of the scheduled technical activities to improve the road transport safety and vehicles in accordance with the international standards.

During the visit of the project within the period from 5 till 12 February 2014, in Baku, Azerbaijan experts exchanged views with the interested parties concerning the priority actions of the Action Plan at the Permanent Secretariat and the National Secretariat IGC TRACECA. In particular, there were discussions concerned the issues of increasing road safety awareness among road users, especially vulnerable road users (children, elderly people, pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, changing attitudes to road safety, implementation of steps taken to develop pre-hospital care systems and for dealing with crashes at the scene

The Project will promote further increase on the enforcement capacity of the concerned authorities of the TRACECA beneficiary countries on safety by appropriate and consistent punishment of offenders.  

In order to enhance regional cooperation, integration under the Strategy of the Intergovernmental Commission TRACECA and achievement of the expected results within the project, the Parties emphasized the the necessity of the work of the relevant sessions of regional working groups jointly organized by TRACECA Permanent Secretariat as well as the development and dissemination of annual work plans and the support of regional and national working groups.

The execution of the project’s Terms of Reference and its basic components have to correspond to the TRACECA Regional Action Plan on road safety, approved at the Ninth Annual Meeting of the IGC TRACECA in Bucharest, November 24, 2011.

The key experts of the projects are planning to visit all TRACECA beneficiary countries to define the concrete actions within Technical Assistance shortly.
