TRACECA participated at the meeting of experts on multimodal transport and railway digitalization, held in Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan
On November 02, 2022, a meeting of experts on multimodal transport and railway digitalization in North and Central Asia was held in a hybrid format.
The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport in cooperation with the Secretariat of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).
Taking into account the important role of digitalization in the development of the transport system in the Asia-Pacific region, the ESCAP Secretariat is implementing a technical assistance project "New technologies and digital transformation to enhance sustainability and competitiveness of railway operations in North and Central Asia".
The objective of the project is to provide support to increase the understanding and skills of the relevant institutions of the participating countries on the experience gained in the use of new technologies in digital transformation, railway and multimodal transport and successful policy instruments in the specified subregion.
The meeting also discussed the existing gaps in terms of digital transformation and the use of new technologies to improve the efficiency and sustainability of railway/intermodal transport.
The event was attended by representatives of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, as well as the UNESCAP Secretariat, the UNESCAP Sub-regional Office for North and Central Asia, the International Union of Railways (UIC), TRACECA and other international organizations and structures.
In continuation of the expert meeting, a Workshop organized jointly by the ESCAP Secretariat and the International Union of Railways (UIC) on the topic "Capacity building for digital transformation of railways for North and Central Asia" followed on November 03.
During the workshop, topics such as digitalization of railway transport in the ESCAP region/ North and Central Asia, problems of cybersecurity on railways - challenges and ways forward, etc. were touched upon.

Partnership with the International Union of Railways (UIC) were consolidated by a Memorandum of Understanding dated July 17, 2003 in Baku, Azerbaijan and with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) dated June 16, 2009 in Issyk-Kul, Kyrgyzstan.
