TRACECA is an honoured guest at the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries

On August 5-8, 2025 in Awaza, Turkmenistan, the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) under the theme "Driving Progress through Partnerships" was held.

The main objective of the conference is to strengthen international cooperation and form constructive partnerships to address the development challenges faced by landlocked developing countries.

On August 6, 2025, a special event “Connectivity Track” was held in parallel with the conference, dedicated to the transport and transit connectivity. The agenda included issues of infrastructure development, transit transport facilitation and regional integration.

Among the speakers of the special event were ministers and leading representatives of the transport and economic sector, heads of international organizations such as TRACECA, WCO, UN ECE, ICAO, UN-OHRLLS and others.

During the session "Regional integration initiatives", Mr. Asset Assavbayev, Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA informed the participants about the key areas of TRACECA's activities, including the promotion of regional cooperation, harmonization of legal norms, and implementation of international agreements. "TRACECA's priorities are in line with the United Nations Programme of Action for Landlocked Developing Countries (for 2024-2034), which emphasizes the importance of transport corridors: interoperable transit procedures, simplification of documentation and border procedures, electronic data exchange based on international standards," Mr. Assavbayev said.

Along with this, TRACECA was included in the list of invited speakers at a special event of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) within the framework of the same conference. In his address to the participants of the session, the Secretary General drew attention to the common strategic goals of TRACECA and ECO, as well as the importance of effective joint cooperation in their implementation, considering the Chairmanship of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the IGC TRACECA.

At the same time, the Secretary General provided information on a number of the TRACECA initiatives and ongoing projects in the field of transport development: TRACECA Fund, Multilateral Permits System, Digital Concept, and development of the Strategy for 2027-2036.

In addition, the Conference became a platform for holding bilateral meetings of the TRACECA Secretary General with representatives of official delegations. In particular, a meeting was held with Mr. Burak Aykan, National Secretary of the PS IGC TRACECA in the Republic of Türkiye, during which the organization of the upcoming meeting of the PS IGC TRACECA in the Republic of Türkiye, under the Chairmanship of the Islamic Republic of Iran, was discussed.

At the same time, during discussion with Mr. M. Chakiyev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, issues of enhancing Turkmenistan's participation in TRACECA projects and events, as well as implementation of the caravan concept along the country's territory were discussed.

During the meeting with Mr. Edil Baisalov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic, a substantive exchange of views was held, during which special attention was paid to strengthening the positions of the Kyrgyz Party in implementation of the TRACECA initiatives.

- As part of the opening ceremony of the conference, Mr. Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary-General and H.E. Mr. Serdar Berdimuhamedov, President of Turkmenistan addressed the participants with a welcoming speech. The high-level event brought together heads of state, ministers, and senior representatives of international organizations, providing a platform for dialogue on improving connectivity, using science and technology, developing solutions to problems related to climate change, and others.
