The Permanent Secretariat prepared the Review of the measures realization for the “TRACECA Regional Action Strategy on Maritime Safety and Security and Environmental Protection up to 2021”

30.05.2020

This Review of the measures was prepared on the basis of the information provided by the TRACECA member states on the results of 2019.

The Regional Strategy pursues three main objectives subdivided into a number of Priority Actions within three guidelines for action - maritime security, protection of the environment and maritime safety.

Each guideline for action envisages a number of relevant activities favouring:- development of vessels traffic and coordination of information systems between the countries;
- elimination of sub-standard shipping;
- enhancing security of crews and passengers;
- reducing the risk of environmental pollution and a number of other issues.

The Strategy for the TRACECA development determines that in the future the aspects of strengthening traffic safety and environmental protection of the Europe-the Caucasus-Asia corridor are the key factors of the prospective development of the TRACECA region.

It is worth noting that the “TRACECA Regional Action Strategy for Maritime Safety and Security and Environmental Protection for the period up to 2021” was adopted by the member states of the Basic Multilateral Agreement at the Ninth Annual Meeting of the IGC TRACECA (Bucharest, 24 November 2011).

This Strategy is considered as a common structure for cooperation between the countries of the Black and Caspian Seas in the field of maritime transport, particularly, maritime safety and security.

Presently the member states acceded to more than 20 IMO Conventions and corresponding Protocols to them, Conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO). The procedure of accession to other IMO Conventions is on-going.
 The prepared Review will be presented during the forthcoming Meeting of the PS IGC TRACECA which is to be held via web-conferencing on 11 June 2020.
