Study Tour of “LOGMOS” Project beneficiaries for the purposes of effective application of advanced practice and transfer of know-how in the field of transport and logistics

On 11-15 June 2012 with the assistance of the Ministry of Transport of Turkey and the National Secretariat of TRACECA there was arranged the study tour and training in Turkey within the framework of the “Logistical Processes and Motorways of the Sea II” Project (LOGMOS).

As Mr. Eduard Biriucov, Secretary General of TRACECA noted, the processes of globalization, growth of international goods and passengers turnover volumes, the increasing requirements to provision of quality service in the transport of goods and passengers – all these factors form new objectives and tasks of technological and legal enhancement of transport systems of the TRACECA countries.

The key objective of the study tour and training was to inform the participants following the example of Turkey about the advanced practice in the field of maritime component of traffic and to familiarize with effective logistical processes
stimulating the increase of TRACECA competitiveness applicable in the corridor.

During their stay in Istanbul the participants visited the logistic centre of «Balnak Lojistik» company in Chatalja, «Marport», the logistic centre «Kuehne + Nagel» in Gebze, where they were familiarized with the activity of the centre, the port of Pendic «UN Ro-Ro», visited the port of the RO-RO terminal, where trailers are loaded on the ships operating in the direction of Romania, Italy and France. The participants were also familiarized with the operation of RO-RO Ulusoi navigation lines in the port of Cheshme, contrailer transport, increase of the number of berths by various nomenclature of goods, execution of dredging operations. During stay in Izmir they visited a special economic zone “Manisa”, the port of Izmir to become familiar with the activity of the port and the plan of further development of passenger and container terminals.

In the course of the meetings in Istanbul Mr. Marat Saduov, Permanent Representative of TRACECA in Kazakhstan, informed the participants about the «Silk Wind» Project, on the creation of the route of a fast block-train with the improved system of preliminary exchange of information to attract the freight traffic to the corridor Europe-the Caucasus-Asia. Mrs. Khadjer Uyarlar, Secretary General of “UTIKAD” made a presentation regarding «Trade Facilitation to Ensure Links between the regions: Turkey and Central Asia».   You can find the presentations of the practical workshop here  

The participants arrived at a common view that the knowledge obtained during the workshop as well as the accumulated positive experience will make it possible to extend interregional and intergovernmental relations and will contribute to further integration of transport systems and strengthening ties between Europe and Asia
