Representatives of Latvia visited the TRACECA Headquarters

During the meeting, the issues of the current state of cargo transportation between the TRACECA countries and Latvia, initiatives of the Permanent Secretariat and further plans to deepen cooperation in the field of transport and logistics were discussed.

The Sides also exchanged views on the transportation of goods that are not sensitive to the time of transportation, both to/from Latvia and through other countries of the European Union. The Latvian side noted that today the country's ports are connected with the Scandinavian countries, which opens up new opportunities for the transportation of goods to/from TRACECA countries.

The Secretary General, Mr. Asset Assavbayev, informed that today the Permanent Secretariat is studying the experience of EU countries with regard to the implementation of combined transportation, including the implementation of trial piggyback transportation for further analysis of information and development of recommendations to TRACECA countries. The Latvian side supported this initiative and agreed to participate in the implementation of trial transportation along the routes of the TRACECA corridor to further explore the prospects for the active use of these routes by Latvian carriers.
 
Mr. Asset Assavbayev also shared information about the procedures for obtaining observer status in the Intergovernmental Commission TRACECA.

On the outcomes of discussions, the Sides agreed to continue joint work to attract more cargo flow to the TRACECA corridor routes and exchange information on further steps of cooperation.
