19.05.2021

On May 18, 2021, discussions on the prospects for the development of international road transport were held within the virtual session.

The virtual session brought together over 100 participants from 13 TRACECA MLA member states, including representatives of state bodies, international and intergovernmental organizations such as the IRU, BSEC, national representatives of road and sea carriers, ports and major logistics companies that are directly involved in the transport process along the routes of the TRACECA corridor.

The main objective of this event was to inform stakeholders about the vision and prospects for the development of TRACECA, to develop solutions in order to eliminate “bottlenecks” for increasing the competitiveness of the corridor.

During the session, the Secretary General shared current TRACECA initiatives and the priorities that the Permanent Secretariat of the IGC TRACECA is actively working on in the field of international road transport.

The speakers addressed issues related to the digitalization of transport documents, the development of multimodal transport, the simplification of border crossing procedures, including through the introduction of electronic queues at checkpoints.

During the discussions, the participants of the virtual session also touched such topics as intermodal opportunities of the Black and Caspian Sea ports, cooperation of transport and forwarding companies for the development of transit, multimodal transport and logistics service chain, issues of freedom of transit, the development of bonded warehouse complexes in transit corridors.

At the end of the session, the Secretary General noted: "At present, together with the authorized state bodies of the TRACECA member states, we are working on the Action Plan for 2022-2026. Therefore, the issues raised today within the virtual session will be worked out with countries in order to simplify transport procedures as much as possible and eliminate "bottlenecks" of the TRACECA corridor."
