On 14 December 2017, by the official invitation of Mr. Ciopraga, Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA, Mr. Mehran Khamisizadeh, National Secretary of the PS IGC TRACECA in the Islamic Republic of Iran visited the PS IGC TRACECA Headquarters

In compliance with the agenda the meeting focused on new opportunities in Iran after lifting of economic sanctions, the measures taken and follow-up actions for implementation of the technical assistance projects.

Mr. Ciopraga and Mr. Khamisizadeh emphasized the role and contribution of all member-states of the IGC TRACECA, including the Islamic Republic of Iran, to the development of the TRACECA corridor and prosperous achievements of Iran in the post-sanction time.  

During the meeting with the Experts of the Permanent Secretariat, Mr. Khamisizadeh made presentation on the latest and relevant achievements in the field of transport, transit and logistics in the Islamic Republic of Iran as well as the transport potential of the north and south of the country, especially of the southeastern port of Bandar Abbas and Chabahar.

Development of transport infrastructure, prospects of future development and strengthening of transport cooperation in the region as well as transport-transit potential of the Islamic Republic of Iran were mentioned as priority objectives

The issues of foreign Investment Climate and facilities in the port of Bandar Abbas, Chabahar Transit Agreement among Iran-India and Afghanistan, Implementation of the Ashgabat Transit Agreements (Iran- Oman- Turkmenistan – Uzbekistan), special economic zones as well as Iranian huge investments allocated to the transport corridors were included to the presentation of country`s report. 

Mr. Ciopraga and Mr. Khamisizadeh also exchanged views on some key points of the TRACECA Multilateral Permit system and the Agreement on developemt of Multimodal Transport TRACECA and its advantages.

It should be mentioned that the Agreement on Development of Multimodal Transport TRACECA signed on 16 June 2009 in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan, entered into force on 9 July 2011 and is in effect with respect to Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, which signed and ratified the Agreement. 

The Agreement is open for accession by the MLA TRACECA Parties, including for the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Regarding the TRACECA Multilateral Permit System let us remind that a TRACECA Permit is a multilateral permit authorizing to perform bilateral, transit traffic to/from third countries by   road carriers of the member countries of the TRACECA Permit System through the territory of TRACECA Permit System member countries over a certain period of time.

It should be mentioned that the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) is a full member of the Basic Multilateral Agreement (MLA) TRACECA since 2009.
