On 06 October 2021, a meeting was held between Mr Asset Assavbayev, TRACECA Secretary General and H.E. Mr Seyed Abbas Mousavi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Azerbaijan

During the meeting, the issues of implementation of priority TRACECA initiatives, including issues of cargo transportation and containerization, digitalization, improvement of border crossing procedures for cargo transportation along the routes of TRACECA member states, etc., became the topical themes of discussions.

Mr Assavbayev, Secretary General shared with H.E. Ambassador Mousavi his plans, particularly vision of prospects for developing the potential of the International Transport Corridor (ITC), as well as steps being taken to attract direct participants of the transportation process and stakeholders to a dialogue about the real possibilities of the ITC TRACECA routes.

Taking into consideration the current conditions of interregional trade and cargo transportation along the main routes of international transport corridors, the participants of the meeting pointed out the paramount importance of economic opportunities of the member-states.

“Competitive tariffs provided by TRACECA countries will contribute to an increase of traffic in the region”, - Mr Assavbayev, Secretary General noted.

Within the meeting, H.E. Ambassador Mousavi also expressed appreciation to the Secretary General for the invitation to participate in the upcoming Fifteenth Annual Meeting of the IGC TRACECA and assured his readiness for active cooperation.

On the outcomes of the meeting, Parties expressed hope for constructive interaction in order to develop transport links in the TRACECA region.
