New opportunities for carriers through the Port Kuryk were demonstrated within a Study Tour

A study tour to increase road transport across the Caspian Sea has started in Aktau

On May 17, 2022, with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the First Conference on “Prospects for Development of International Road Transport in Kazakhstan" was held, which was initiated by the Permanent Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Commission TRACECA and the Central Asia Transport and Logistics Partnership.

Similar conferences will be held in Baku, Tbilisi and Batumi in the period from May 19 to May 23 this year as part of a study tour.

The conference brought together over 50 participants from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan, who represent state bodies and organizations, seaports and shipping companies, as well as representatives of road carriers and embassies of Great Britain, the USA, Finland and France. During the conference, Mr. D.Kaspabayev, Deputy Chairman of the Transport Committee of the Ministry, Mr. S. Akhmetov, General Director of Port Kuryk LLP, and Mr. V. Kingushanov, Deputy Head of the Kuryk customs post, made a presentation. During the session, the speakers answered all the questions of interest to the participants related to border crossing procedures and other formalities required for transportation.

The main purpose of this event is to realize the possibilities of transportation along the TRACECA corridor routes, discuss problematic issues and find solutions for further elaboration with the countries’ authorized bodies. During the week, the participants will discuss all questions of interest about road transport along Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey-Bulgaria route.

Along with this, the Conference participants also visited the Port Kuryk to get acquainted with the port infrastructure. During the study tour, the participants will also be familiarized with the activities of the ports of Baku and Batumi, as well as "Sarpi" checkpoint on the border of Georgia and Turkey.

These events are held with the support of the USAID's Trade Central Asia Activity in close cooperation with the Union of Transport Workers of Kazakhstan KazLogistics.
