Joint efforts and coordinated actions of the IGC TRACECA member states are the key to successful development of the whole international transport corridor Europe-the Caucasus-Asia

On March 02, 2020, during the official visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan, Mr. Asset Assavbayev, Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA met with Mr. Elyor Ganiyev, Minister of Transport.

During the meeting, the Minister stressed the special importance Uzbekistan attaches to the TRACECA programme and the necessity to invigorate the activity along the international transport corridor Europe-the Caucasus-Asia.

Mr. Ganiyev noted that under modern conditions, there are all the necessary prerequisites for effective use of potential opportunities of the TRACECA corridor, in view of the construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway.

For his part, Mr. Asset Assavbayev, TRACECA Secretary General informed about the initiation and implementation of the projects such as the digitalization of the TRACECA corridor, streamlining border-crossing procedures, as well as the use of an integrated border-control system.

During the exchange of views, the participants of the meeting noted the need for the countries to coordinate their actions regarding the volume of freight traffic at BCPs, taking into account their capacities.  

The Minister suggested that the transport flows should be diversified in order to avoid the congestion of cargo at BCPs that operate within their capacities. 

Mr. Ganiyev supported the idea of advance information of the competent authorities on traffic, which would also facilitate the procedure of passage of goods along the corridor.  

The subject of discussion was the delivery of cargo from the Asian part of the region and ensuring return loading from the European part, enhancing collaboration with the European Union and resuming the implementation of TA projects. 

At the same time, the participants discussed the issues of tariff regulation, the application of a flexible approach to the tariff policy and discounts on cargo transportation, which in turn will ensure the attraction of additional cargo flows to the TRACECA corridor.

On the outcomes of the meeting, Mr. Elyor Ganiyev, Minister of Transport expressed the readiness of the Uzbekistan Party to support the ideas and initiatives launched in the framework of TRACECA activities for the benefit of the whole region.
