Interregional cooperation – as one of the priorities of development within international transport corridor TRACECA

On 1 July 2019, upon official invitation of Mr. Ciopraga, Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA, H.E. Mr. Luis Antonio Dimate Cardenas, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Colombia to the Republic of Azerbaijan paid a courtesy visit to the TRACECA Headquarters.

Secretary General briefly introduced to H.E. Mr. Cardenas TRACECA recent activity, structure and relevant achievements during the meeting. Mr. Ciopraga stressed that the Intergovernmental Commission TRACECA since its establishment has gained a lot of experience. It was pointed out that at the present TRACECA has 13 member countries, Lithuania and Greece are observers of TRACECA, who are invited in the meeting/conferences of providing assistance on different aspects of TRACECA activities.

H.E. Mr. Cardenas and Mr. Ciopraga had exchange of opinions on the promotion of trade on East-West dimension and transport opportunities in Europe- the Caucasus- Asia, the existing routes within the region and so called corridors that have been created recently in the Black Sea - Caspian Sea region, as well as the circulation of goods and obstacles on this way. 

The discussion also touched various issues, in particular Agreement on Multimodal Transport TRACECA, TRACECA Multilateral Permit (User Guide) as well as, implementation of the harmonization of legislation, considered within the Strategy of the IGC TRACECA up to 2026. 

In view of the interest of H.E. Mr. Cardenas on China contribution and cooperation with TRACECA, Mr. Ciopraga stated on the mutually beneficial interest and collaboration with Silk Road Chamber of International Commerce (SRCIC) and Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Institute, built up on the Memoranduma of Understanding.

Mr. Ciopraga added about cooperation with “One Belt One Road” Initiative that shows good prospects for future economic development of both TRACECA and SRCIC regions. 

Within discussion, Ambassador emphasized the importance of investigation the economic, agricultural, touristic and political environment in the region and then the opportunities for the effective investing in the region. H.E. Mr. Cardenas noted that Colombia is keen on development of cooperation in the region in all fields and mentioned that he would made efforts on further enhancement of multilateral relations during his diplomatic mission.

At the end of the visit, Mr. Ciopraga expressed his gratitude to H.E. Mr. Cardenas for his visit and hope for the further cooperation within TRACECA activities.
