First Working Group meeting on Road Transport on the ITC TRACECA has adopted final recommendations on December 20, 2011 in Kiev, Ukraine

Parties stressed the necessity for development and upgrade of road transport infrastructure, discussed the possibilities of increasing the efficiency of ITC TRACECA for international road transport.

The meeting participants discussed the proposals of the European experts on optimization of components affecting competitiveness of international carriage of goods by road transport and TRAX methodology developed by IDEA project for its application within ITC TRACECA. Representatives of customs authorities of Georgia made a presentation on institutional reforms.

The Working Group Meeting came to consensus on the need to develop joint actions aimed at improving road safety and operation of vehicles in compliance with environmental norms as well as training of specialists and capacity building activities on transport safety.

On the outcomes of the meeting, WG final document on Road Transport of the ITC TRACECA was adopted, which recommended the parties jointly with IRU and other stakeholders to intensify cooperation on the development of an electronic map of roads and road infrastructure of the South Caucasus and Central Asia, to study and to apply best experiences of the Georgian Customs in day-to-day work.
