Effective measures are always needed for the purposes of safety and navigation channels

On 5 May 2015, Mr. Mircea Ciopraga, Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA met with Mr. Revaz Babilua, Director of the J.P.P.R. State Hydrographic Service.

Georgian State Hydrography Service is a National Coordinator for navigational warnings, it consists of Navigational systems and equipment which is located on the coast of Georgia, provider of sailing means for the safe navigation (48 ground-based and 34 sea from ground-based, 22 units occupied territory).

Mr. Babilua informed Mr. Ciopraga about the service structure which consists of 3 main departments: - Navigational marks, technical services and monitoring department, Hydrographic survey and cartography department and Weather Forecasts department.

Mr. Babilua also added that ensuring the safe navigation is a main function of Georgian Hydrographic service, which requires promotion of capacity building and qualified personnel. In this purpose the personnel of Hydrographic survey, cartography and correction passed special trainings at Batumi State Maritime Academy.

This authority bought the equipment specialized in scanning bottom of the sea and will be applicable to set out detailed maps regarding port areas.
