Cyber Security is essential for the development of civil aviation

On 16 March 2022, within the framework of TRACECA one-day training courses on the topic “Cyber Security” were organized and conducted by the Civil Aviation Authority of the United Kingdom (UK CAA) together with the Permanent Secretariat of the IGC TRACECA. These courses have become a logical continuation of the aviation security courses that were organized in November 2020.

With the view of discussing the current topic, the courses brought together representatives of civil aviation sector from 7 TRACECA countries. The course covered such subjects as key threats and basic requirements for cyber security, the ICAO strategy and action plan in the field of security, synergies in ensuring safety and security, etc.
 
During the event, the course instructor introduced the main goals and elements in the field of cyber security, as well as shared the experience of the UK.  

The role of the EASA regulatory structure, cyber security definitions, aviation-specific terminology, cyber security rules and regulations, aviation cyber security threats, rules for the application of air navigation services, opportunities and implementation of Information Security Management System (ISMS) were also the focus of discussion during the course.        

Particular attention was paid to the issues of cyber security oversight, synergy with the existing management systems and cyber certification process.

At the end of the course, the participants received the answers to their questions. 6 TRACECA countries will also take part in similar courses scheduled for 29 March 2022.
