Being one of the first signatories of the MLA TRACECA, Uzbekistan is of great importance for the Europe-Caucasus-Asia corridor

During the period from 22 to 25 March, the official visit of Asset Assavbayev, the Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA to the Republic of Uzbekistan took place.

Within his visit, the Secretary General took part in the Tashkent International Investment Forum, which was held on 24-25 of March.

The plenary session of the Forum was held with direct participation and the opening speech of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who outlined the priority areas for the development of the country, as well as the reforms and transformations carried out in Uzbekistan over the past few years.

The discussions of speakers and participants of the Forum covered the topics of transformation of trade flows in the Central Asian region and their capitalization, attraction of investments in the tourism sector.

The Forum paid special attention to the issue of digitalization of transport systems. During the discussions, the Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA, Assavbayev A.A., dwelled in detail on the role of digitalization in the development of the TRACECA international transport corridor.

“The transport industry plays an important role in increasing investment attractiveness. Besides, the transport infrastructure should be maximally integrated into international transport networks with a strong focus on the introduction of advanced technologies. Today, integration of various information systems and harmonization in the development of digital solutions in transport is required. Since digitalization is the imperative of the time”, Assavbayev A.A. emphasized.

The program of the visit also included discussions of promising areas of activity and the status of the implementation of priority TRACECA initiatives in the framework of a meeting with Makhkamov I.R., the Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan, and other persons responsible for the formation of transport policy, the implementation of projects and the promotion of initiatives in the region.

The main focus was on the facilitation of border crossing procedures, the possibility of mutual recognition of the results of customs control at the borders, the prospects for the recognition of electronic signatures between the competent authorities, the completion of the procedures for approval of the Agreement on Single Transit Permit and the implementation of the TRACECA Digital Concept. Exchange of views took place on the issues of joining the Agreement on the development of Multimodal Transport TRACECA, piloting digital solutions, including eTIR, eCMR, GTrD, e-queue and other topics.
