His Excellency Emomali Rakhmon, President of the Republic of Tajikistan received Mr. Eduard Biriucov, Secretary General of the Permanent Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Commission TRACECA on 17 September 2012, in Dushanbe

Particular attention was given to the issues of preparation for the chairmanship of Tajikistan in TRACECA in 2013. The Head of state emphasized that the Anniversary Meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission TRACECA would make it possible to direct attention to the solution of a number of issues and problems of the regional transport infrastructure.

Within the framework of the Meeting there were considered the efforts exerted by Tajikistan regarding the implementation of infrastructure projects. In this connection the sides exchanged views on working out a general understanding of the existing barriers to the goods’ carriage along the TRACECA corridor, and in particular the difficulties faced by carriers of Tajikistan.

Mr. Emomali Rakhmon suggested that International Financial Institutions and International Organizations invest in construction and rehabilitation of roads in Tajikistan with the view of their subsequent integration with the highways of the regional countries, particularly - establish a modern Road Logistics Centre in the territory of a Free Economic Zone “Piandj”.

Taking into consideration the achieved agreements and the support of the initiatives for the development of transport transit potential of the TRACECA corridor, Mr. Biriucov, Secretary General of TRACECA submitted to the President, His Excellency Emomali Rakhmon a joint initiative of the Permanent Secretariat of the IGC TRACECA and the International Road Transport Union. The initiative refers to arrangement of the International Conference “Development of Transit Potential of Central Asia for the period up to 2020” with participation of distinguished guests, official representatives of the TRACECA countries and the European Commission, international organizations and business structures, which could be held upon the completion of the Anniversary Conference of the IGC TRACECA in 2013, in Dushanbe.

On the outcomes of the meeting there was expressed confidence that the chairmanship of Tajikistan in TRACECA and the arrangement of the International Conference next year would actively promote the solution of numerous regional transport problems, including the removal of artificial barriers.
