The Republic of Kazakhstan applies efforts to develop infrastructure and to attract investments to the transport sector with the view of creating favourable conditions for the whole TRACECA region

In the course of the meeting the sides exchanged views and emphasized the need to develop road infrastructure, transit potential of the Central Asian region, discussed various possibilities to increase the effectiveness of the ITC TRACECA in performing international transport of goods by road. The Secretary General also noted the joint initiative of the Permanent Secretariat IGC TRACECA and IRU regarding the necessity to contribute to the development and dissemination of the digital maps of roads of the transport corridor Europe-the Caucasus-Asia.

Taking into account the actuality of the forthcoming events in the field of aviation in Kazakhstan the meeting participants discussed the cooperation with the European Civil Aviation Conference. Specifically, they discussed the draft Memorandum of Understanding between the Intergovernmental Commission of the Transport Corridor Europe-the Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA) and the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC). This cooperation is deemed to be important in view of the tasks set before air transport of the TRACECA countries. These tasks are partially carried out through the EU technical assistance Civil Aviation Project.

Besides, Mr. Biriucov stressed that since the launch of the TRACECA programme implementation and signing of the Basic Multilateral Agreement Kazakhstan became an active participant of the projects and initiatives concerning the revitalization of the Great Silk Road. In this connection within the framework of cooperation with the “Silk Road” customs initiative Mr. Biriucov touched upon the issues of partnership relationships with the representatives of the customs structures and next steps towards the performance by the PS of the secretariat functions within this initiative.

The sides came to a common opinion regarding further elaboration of the Concept of the Strategy of the TRACECA corridor development up to 2025 as well as the development of the “SILK WIND” Project which is acquiring more popularity in view of the objectives set and the effectiveness in its implementation.

During the meeting there were pointed basic issues in the implementation of the on-going technical assistance projects under TRACECA, further institutional enhancement of the IGC TRACECA structures, as well as the action plan for 2013 in the context of discussion of the next Anniversary Tenth Annual IGC TRACECA Conference to be held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
