Transportation between Lithuania and the countries of Central Asia - in the focus of discussions between representatives of public authorities and the private sector
The business mission, which started on June 12, 2023 in Latvia, continued its work in the period from June 14 to 17, 2023 in Lithuania (Klaipeda, Kaunas, Vilnius) with the support of the PS IGC TRACECA, the Ministry of Transport of Lithuania, the Central Asia Transport and Logistics Partnership, the Union of Transport Workers of Kazakhstan Kazlogistics, and the Trade Central Asia Activity of the US Agency for International Development.
The main purpose of the event is to study and discuss the current state and prospects of cargo transportation between Lithuania, which has been an observer in the TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission since 2009, and the countries of Central Asia along the routes that form the basis of the TRACECA corridor.
The event was attended by representatives of the Ministries of Transport of Central Asian countries (Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan), carriers, representatives of transport and logistics centres, transport and logistics companies engaged in international and multimodal transportation.
As part of the business mission, visits were organized to Klaipeda State Seaport, Klaipeda Free Economic Zone, Kaunas Intermodal Terminal, as well as the logistics centre Girteka Logistics.
Speakers, including representatives from government agencies of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, as well as TRACECA, the Central Asia Transport and Logistics Partnership (TLP) and the USAID’s Trade Central Asia, Kazlogistics Union of Transport Workers of Kazakhstan, shared their vision and experience in transportation.
The participants of the meeting heard the presentations of the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists, the Lithuanian National Association of Road Carriers “LINAVA”, the association of logisticians and forwarders LINEKA, LTG Cargo, the company “BUNASTA”, etc.
During his speech, the Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA stressed that the TRACECA routes allow for the transportation of goods by both road and railway transport. During his speech, the Secretary General also shared with the mission participants the main characteristics of the road-sea and rail-sea cargo transportation routes between Lithuania and the countries of Central Asia, paying special attention to the time and cost of transportation.
The Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA, Mr A. Assavbayev also noted the main areas of activity within the framework of TRACECA and shared the preliminary results of the pilot transportation of goods by semi-trailers, carried out from May 25 to June 15 along the route Lithuania - Poland - Slovakia - Hungary - Romania - Bulgaria – the Black Sea - Georgia - Azerbaijan – the Caspian Sea - Kazakhstan with a detailed description of the route, travel time and transport costs.
During the mission, the Secretary General presented Mr. Povilas Varasimavichius, Founder of “Transport-Logistic Nika Group” LLP, Director of “Sturvalas” CJSC, with a Certificate of Appreciation for organizing and actively participating in the first pilot transportation of goods by semi-trailer along the TRACECA corridor.
At the end of the session, the participants of the event had the opportunity to take part in B2B meetings in order to establish contacts and expand interaction with delegates from Central Asia and Lithuanian entrepreneurs.
