TRACECA took part in the Second EU-Central Asia Economic Forum, held in Almaty, Kazakhstan on May 18-19, 2023
The objective of the two-day Forum is to discuss issues of deepening cooperation and further steps to implement interaction between the Central Asian countries and the EU. In particular, special attention was paid to such priority areas as "green" and "digital transition", improving the business climate, as well as expanding trade and transport connectivity.
The forum was attended by high-ranking officials and representatives of EU member states and Central Asian countries, key stakeholders, international organizations, international financial institutions, representatives of the private sector and others.
The Forum focused on the challenges and opportunities related to the EU-Central Asia trade routes, need for innovation and IT, reengineering business operations along EU-Central Asia corridors, advanced digital solutions to stimulate business and economic relations between the two regions, strengthening trade and transport links between the EU and Central Asia, etc.
During the business session organized in partnership with the International Trade Centre, participants had the opportunity to exchange experiences with representatives of the private sector and expand business contacts between the EU and Central Asia.
Within the framework of the Forum, the key findings of the EU-financed Study of Sustainable Transport Corridors between Europe and Central Asia conducted by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) were presented, which served as the basis for discussions at the forum.
Along with direct involvement in the work of the Forum, the Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA, Mr. Assavbayev A.A. discussed with the Vice-Minister of Industry and Infrastructural Development, Mr. Idyrysov A. the possibilities of promoting a number of current initiatives by the Kazakh Side in the region.
On the outcomes of the Forum, recommendations for further interaction with the private sector and cooperation between businesses from CA and EC countries were presented to the participants.

The first EU-Central Asia Economic Forum was held in 2021 in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. The Forum was aimed at discussing and developing coordinated economic responses to support an environmentally friendly and sustainable recovery after the socio-economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Permanent Secretariat of the IGC TRACECA actively promotes dialogue with international financial institutions, including the EBRD.
