Strengthening the transport dialogue in the MLA countries is the key to promoting main projects across the region

On October 9-10, 2024, the official visit of Mr Asset Assavbayev, the Secretary General of the Permanent Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Commission TRACECA (the PS IGC TRACECA) took place in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The visit included key meetings with leaders and leading representatives of the transport sector, aimed at discussing the future perspectives of the development of the Europe-the Caucasus-Asia Corridor, strengthening cooperation and connectivity in the TRACECA region.

Within the framework of the visit, Assavbayev A. took part in the 27th Kazakhstan International Transport & Logistics Exhibition, which brought together the leading representatives of the transport industry from around the world, including such TRACECA member states, as Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Romania, Turkmenistan, Türkiye, Uzbekistan; as well as other countries—among them Austria, Belarus, Germany, China, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, UAE, Switzerland and Estonia.

During the event, the bilateral meeting between Assavbayev A. and Mr Maksat Kaliakparov, the Deputy Minister of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan took place. The main focus of the discussions concentrated on current TRACECA projects and initiatives, in particular, the Agreement on Single Transit Permit of TRACECA, implementation of the project on introduction of the electronic CIM/SMGS consignment note, performance of road checkpoints along the TRACECA routes, etc.

Along with this, discussions with the National Secretary of the PS IGC TRACECA in Kazakhstan, Mr Sapar Bektassov were held on international experience, the practice of the TRACECA countries on bonded warehouses, free trade zones, logistics capabilities of the region and other promising aspects.

In addition, an exchange of opinions with the Secretary General of the International Association "Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR)", Mr Gaidar Abdikerimov took place, the main goal of which was to explore the further development of partnership and define the next steps within the framework of cooperation between the PS IGC TRACECA and the International Association of TITR.

Taking into account Lithuania’s observer status in the IGC TRACECA, the Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA, Mr Asset Assavbayev, also met with the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications of Lithuania, Mr Julius Skačkauskas, to discuss the enhancing of cooperation within the framework of current TRACECA projects being implemented. In particular, specific attention was paid to the development of the corridor routes and the possibilities of transportation in the Caspian region by Lithuanian carriers, including semi-trailers. During the discussions, the successful experience of pilot transportation of goods carried out by semi-trailers in June 2023 along the TRACECA corridor on a multimodal route, which started in Lithuania and ended in Kazakhstan, was noted.
