On April 17, 2024, the meeting of the Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA with the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan was held

During his visit to Turkmenistan, the Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA, Mr. Asset Assavbayev, met with the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, H.E. Mr. Rashid Meredov.

During the meeting, the sides discussed current projects and initiatives in the field of transport connectivity, as well as the development of transport infrastructure in Turkmenistan and TRACECA region, as a whole. Mr. Meredov informed about the initiatives and efforts of Turkmenistan in sustainable development of the transport sector and at the same time, paid special attention to discussions on cooperation with the PS IGC TRACECA.

In this regard, the meeting participants emphasized 6 UN resolutions adopted by the UN General Assembly on the initiative of Turkmenistan, including the resolution of 2014 "the role of transport and transit corridors in ensuring international cooperation for sustainable development", of 2017 "strengthening links between all modes of transport to achieve Sustainable Development Goals", etc.

The agenda of the discussions covered the importance of Turkmenistan's accession to TRACECA international legal documents, in particular protocols and agreements, which will contribute to the country's full involvement in TRACECA activities in the future.

Along with this, the Secretary General highlighted the importance of the opening and full functioning of a new section of the high-speed highway, the solemn launch of which took place under the leadership of the President of Turkmenistan, H.E. Mr. Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

Mr. A. Assavbayev noted the importance of progressive steps to connect the TRACECA countries with high-quality highways, which in its turn will have an impact on increasing their connectivity and ensuring the safety of traffic flows.

The exchange of views touched upon the discussion of strategic plans of the PS IGC TRACECA aimed at optimizing transport processes, connectivity and infrastructure development along the ITC TRACECA within the framework of cooperation with all TRACECA member states, including Turkmenistan.

During the discussion, the high-ranking representatives stressed the need to appoint the Permanent Representative of the TRACECA National Commission in Turkmenistan to coordinate and effectively implement joint projects.

The sides also discussed the issue of financing the activities of the PS IGC TRACECA and Turkmenistan's accession to the Agreement on Joint Financing, as well as potential areas for further cooperation contributing to economic growth and development of the region.
