On March 29, 2024, a National Capacity-Building Seminar: Digitalization of Multimodal Data and Document Exchange using UN/CEFACT standards was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan
This workshop was organized in collaboration between the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan, and the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan.
During the first session dedicated to the implementation of UN standards for the digitalization of international supply chains, the UNECE Regional Adviser, Mr. Mario Apostolov, and Chair of the UN/CEFACT, Ms. Sue Probert, familiarized the meeting participants with the UN/CEFACT standards, international supply chains and experience in using Electronic Freight Transport Information Regulation according to the UN/CEFACT standards.
In his turn, the Head of the Department of the Customs Committee of Uzbekistan, Mr. Elyor Khakimov, made a presentation on implementation of e-TIR in Uzbekistan. Mr. Mario Apostolov also noted the importance of electronic platforms for creating a digitalization market and shared Trans-Caspian Corridor Digitalization Roadmap.
During the second session on practical implementation, Mr. Goran Andreev, Border Crossing Expert of the PS IGC TRACECA, provided information on previously conducted TRACECA pilot projects on the use of e-CIM/SMGS.
In their turn, representatives of the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan shared details of the ongoing work on digitalization of consignment notes in Uzbekistan.
The possibilities of pilot digitalization of the consignment note and additional documents using UN standards, opening of centers of expertise for multimodal data and document exchange in the SPECA member countries, as well as legal aspects of the transition from documents to electronic data exchange were discussed following the meeting.
