Digitalization of the transportation process is one of the priority dimensions of the effective development of the TRACECA corridor
On 6 July 2020, Mr Asset Assavbayev, Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA, and Mr Armen Simonyan, TRACECA National Secretary in Armenia, discussed in detail via video-conferencing the issues of the Agenda of the recent Meeting of the Permanent Secretariat held on 11 June 2020.
Mr A. Asavbayev, Secretary General of TRACECA, outlined the initiatives and draft documents required for consideration and discussion directly with each MLA TRACECA member state.
Among the prioritized areas, there were pointed out the following issues: containerization of cargo along the TRACECA corridor, improvement of border crossing procedures, transition of the TRACECA Permits system into the electronic format, upgrade of the cargo handling equipment in the TRACECA ports, maritime safety and ports interoperability.
“The development of the streamlining mechanism for the transport component became a key priority topic for the TA project addressed to the EU with the relevant argumentation”, noted A. Assavbayev.
The participants of the meeting exchanged views on the position of the Armenian Party regarding the Agreement on Transit Traffic. Armenia spoke for the feasibility of elaboration of the existing Agreement signed in 2015 with the emphasis on the digitalization of TRACECA permits.
Taking into consideration the fact, that in the current circumstances the digital transformation in the field of transport occurs globally, the possibility of creating digital (multimodal) transport corridor between the EU countries - the countries of the Black Sea – Caspian Sea – the countries of Central Asia will open up the way to harmonization with the EU single digital market.
The Armenian Party is ready to provide assistance in this dimension and along with this condition, certain regional factors necessary for the data transfer should be taken into account.
During the meeting, the Secretary General informed that with the view of further developing the transport network of the ITC TRACECA and creating convenient tools for the users of the infrastructure the PS considers it expedient to consider the effective approaches to the identification of the international transport routes of the TRACECA corridor.
Mr Simonyan pointed out, that the Armenian Party will consider a number of projects initiated by the Permanent Secretariat and submit the comments in due course.
