The Islamic Republic of Iran actively supports the transport dialogue within TRACECA
On September 15, 2025, at the Headquarters of the Permanent Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Commission TRACECA (PS IGC TRACECA), an introductory meeting between Mr. Asset Assavbayev, Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA and H.E. Mr. Mojtaba Demirchilou, newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Azerbaijan was held.
The objective of the meeting was to discuss key areas of cooperation between the PS IGC TRACECA and the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as to strengthen practical cooperation for the successful promotion of joint projects for development of the transport corridor Europe-the Caucasus-Asia.
Welcoming the Ambassador at the Headquarters of the PS IGC TRACECA, the Secretary General emphasized the importance of the support of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the implementation of the TRACECA initiatives within the framework of its Chairmanship in the IGC TRACECA.
Mr. A. Assavbayev also expressed gratitude to the Iranian Party for its constant readiness for a bilateral dialogue, separately noting the fruitful exchange of views that took place during a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mrs. Farzaneh Sadegh, Minister of Roads and Urban Development of the Islamic Republic of Iran in April this year.
Among the items discussed on the Agenda of the meeting are the TRACECA Single Transit Permit, TRACECA multilateral permits, digital transformation of the corridor, the TRACECA Fund, and the TRACECA Business Council.
The Secretary General informed H.E. Mr. Ambassador in detail about the status of the Islamic Republic of Iran's participation in the above-mentioned projects.
In his turn, Mr. Demirchilou expressed his willingness to provide timely assistance to achieve tangible results in the implementation of the tasks set for the benefit of the development of all participants of the TRACECA corridor.

- The PS IGC TRACECA is actively working on the implementation of initiatives aimed at reducing the number of permits and overall transit costs through the introduction of digital elements and exclusion of paper documents; granting the right to carry out both bilateral transit transport and transport to/from third countries; ensuring a financing mechanism for projects to achieve a number of objectives of the Basic Multilateral Agreement on International Transport for Development of the Europe-the Caucasus-Asia Corridor (MLA); digital transformation of the corridor, expanding dialogue between business representatives and state bodies, etc.
