BAKU PORT INCREASES CARGO TURNOVER BY 20 PCT

Baku International Sea Port increased cargo turnover by 20 percent, more than the corresponding figure for 2019, to 4.8 million tons over 2020, the port’s press service reported.
Transit cargoes accounted for 87 percent of the total cargo volume.
The number of large vehicles (trucks) increased by 28 percent to 43,218. Of these 65 percent or 27,934 moved in the direction of Baku- Turkmenbashi- Baku, and 34 percent or 15,284 in the direction of Baku- Kuryk-Baku. During the reporting period, an increase in container handling was recorded by 14% to 40,345 containers in TEU equivalent. The most significant increase during the reporting period was recorded in dry cargo handling. Thus compared to 2019, the transshipment of dry cargoes increased by 2.8 times and amounted to 711,700 tons.
Compared to the last 5 years, the volume of TIR transshipment has increased 5 times, 3 times - containers, 3.5 times - dry cargo.
The volume of transshipment of oil and oil products at the oil terminal in Dubendi in 2020 increased by 1.5 times compared to 2019 and amounted to 498,577 tons. Additionally, the number of large vehicles (trucks) decreased by 15 percent to 37,447. Of these 53 percent or 19,761 moved in the direction of Baku- Turkmenbashi- Baku, and 47 percent or 17,686 in the direction of Baku-Kuryk-Baku.
Likewise, due to the closure of the country’s borders and the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of passengers using the port’s service decreased and stood at 25,609 people, compared to the same period in 2019.
