TRACECA supports efforts to strengthen transport connectivity
On September 24-26, 2025, the 38th annual session of the UNECE Working Party on Transport Trends and Economics (WP.5) was held in Geneva.
The event was attended by representatives of ministries from more than 20 countries, as well as relevant international organizations, including TRACECA, WCO, UIC, IRU and others.
The agenda of the event covered the issues of strengthening Euro-Asian transport links, climate resilience of transport systems, safety of inland transport etc.
During his speech at the session on the Trans-Caspian and Almaty-Tehran-Istanbul Corridors, Mr. Asset Assavbayev, Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA stressed that TRACECA consistently advocates the development of multimodal, safe and competitive routes, and noted the activities carried out within TRACECA, contributing to the harmonization of infrastructure and digitalization of transportation.
Among the key projects in this area, the Secretary General highlighted:
- work of the Permanent Secretariat on finalizing and implementing agreements aimed at simplifying transit procedures;
- preparation of the Review of the national transport strategies of the TRACECA countries, which identified common challenges and priorities;
- development of the Strategy of the Intergovernmental Commission TRACECA for 2027-2036;
- implementation of pilot projects in the field of digitalization of transportation, including the e-CIM/SMGS consignment note;
- creation of the TRACECA Fund, designed to help attract international investment and co-finance priority cross-border projects.
Concluding his speech, Mr. Assavbayev stressed that the Permanent Secretariat is ready to continue working together to achieve common results and is open to constructive cooperation with interested parties.
The session also provided a favorable platform for bilateral meetings. During the negotiations with Mr. Burak Aykan, National Secretary of the PS IGC TRACECA in the Republic of Türkiye, organizational aspects of preparation for the upcoming meeting of the PS IGC TRACECA in Türkiye and the positions of the Turkish Party on several ongoing projects were discussed. In addition, on September 25, substantive consultations were held with representatives of the International Road Transport Union (IRU), during which areas for expanding cooperation and promoting joint initiatives were considered.

TRACECA's participation in the 38th session of the UNECE WP.5 Working Party confirmed the organization's commitment to the strategic goals of sustainable and efficient development of transport links between Europe and Asia. The Permanent Secretariat will continue to work actively to strengthen regional cooperation and form a unified transport space.
