TRACECA at the ECO Summit: Dialogue on Sustainable Future

On 4 July 2025, the 17th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) was held in Khankendi, the Republic of Azerbaijan, under the theme “New ECO Vision for a Sustainable and Climate-Resilient Future”, the opening of which took place with the participation of H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The event was part of the ECO Week held from 1 to 4 July 2025 in various cities of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The High-Level Summit provided a platform for constructive dialogue on overcoming sustainable development challenges and maintaining economic stability with the participation of Heads of State/Government, Ministers of the ECO member states and observers, as well as heads of international organisations.

The TRACECA Secretariat represented by Mr. Asset Assavbayev, Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA, participated in the Summit as a partner regional organisation sharing a common vision of sustainable growth, transparent solutions and integration of Eurasia.

Particular attention within the Agenda of the Summit was given to the importance of strengthening regional cooperation in the areas of trade, transport, and energy to promote inclusive growth within the framework of environmental responsibility.

The ECO Week brought together a series of thematic forums aimed at engaging youth, promoting gender inclusiveness and enhancing investment in the region.

Following the results of the Summit, participants highlighted the importance of compatibility of solutions and the development of unified standards to achieve common sustainable development goals.

 

For reference:

  • The Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) was established in 1985 by Iran, Türkiye and Pakistan to ensure the development of multidimensional cooperation and create conditions for sustainable socio-economic growth in the region. Since 1992, 7 new states - Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan - have joined the ECO.

  • TRACECA and ECO share a common vision of a prosperous and integrated Eurasia. In this context, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between TRACECA and ECO, signed on 16 June 2009, provides a solid basis for the continuous expansion of an effective partnership between the two organisations.

  • TRACECA's participation at the 17th ECO Summit reflects the commitment to intensify cooperation with the ECO in key sectors including transport connectivity, sustainable logistics and digital transformation.

  • On 3 July 2025, within the framework of the 17th ECO Summit, a cultural programme was held in Aghdam city, followed by a sightseeing tour of the city.
