Kazakhstan aims to develop priority areas of the strategy of TRACECA

On August 29, 2024, a meeting between the newly appointed National Secretary (hereinafter - NS) of the Permanent Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Commission TRACECA (hereinafter - the PS IGC TRACECA) in the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Bektassov S.B. and the Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA, Mr. Assavbayev A.A. was held via videoconferencing.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the status of participation of the Republic of Kazakhstan in relevant TRACECA initiatives and projects, current opportunities and perspectives for the development of routes of the International Transport Corridor Europe-the Caucasus-Asia.

The items discussed within the framework of the Agenda of the meeting included the practical application of the CIM/SMGS consignment note, evaluation of checkpoints on the corridor, and the realization of the Action Plan for 2022-2026 for implementation of the Strategy of the IGC TRACECA until 2026, the position of Kazakhstan on the draft Memorandum of Cooperation with OTIF, as well as the country's readiness to consider the acceptability of the proposals of Azerbaijan to the Agreement on Single Transit Permit and sign it in the near future.

The Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA Assabayev A. noted that the PS is always ready for close assistance and open dialogue for appropriate coordination and implementation of the common goals of TRACECA for the benefit of the development of all countries participating in the corridor.

The TRACECA NS in Kazakhstan expressed his readiness for timely interaction on the implementation of TRACECA initiatives, as well as recommendations and decisions made during the meetings of the PS and National Secretaries and the IGC.

  • TRACECA is an internationally recognized programme that unites the transport system of 14 countries that have signed the "Basic Multilateral Agreement on International Transport for Development of the Europe-the Caucasus-Asia corridor" (MLA) and pursue to develop economic relations, trade and transport communication in the regions of Europe, the Black Sea, the Caucasus, the Caspian Sea and Asia.
  • The Republic of Kazakhstan is a member state of the MLA, actively participating in the realization of projects and initiatives of the PS IGC TRACECA, plays a key role in regional integration and expanding practical opportunities for the implementation of priority areas of the development of TRACECA.
