TRACECA and Turkmenistan: opportunities for cooperation in the areas of expanding trade and increasing transit opportunities

The main topic of discussion was the issue of accession of Turkmenistan to the Basic Multilateral Agreement on International Transport for Development of the Europe-the Caucasus-Asia Corridor TRACECA of 1998 (MLA).  

“The Permanent Secretariat of the IGC TRACECA welcomes and shares the favourable news about the decision of Turkmenistan to join TRACECA, as for many years the Permanent Secretariat has been making efforts to expand cooperation in the TRACECA-Turkmenistan format”, noted the Secretary General A.A. Assavbayev.

During the meeting with H. E. Ambassador, the Secretary General added that at the moment, according to the information received by the Permanent Secretariat, seven TRACECA countries expressed their approving positions on this issue. Replies from other countries are still awaited.

The PS IGC TRACECA will continue this work with representatives of the TRACECA countries at all levels of communication and platforms in order to accelerate the procedural coordination of Turkmenistan's accession to TRACECA by the day of the event, taking into account and with the joint support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
