The Turkish Party backs up the TRACECA initiatives aimed at increasing the competitiveness of the Europe-the Caucasus-Asia corridor
This was announced by the National Secretary of TRACECA in Turkey, Burak Aykan, during the exchange of views on the current plans and activities of the Secretariat for 2021 with the Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA Asset Assavbayev, held in the format of a video conference.
One of the priority impetuses to increasing traffic on the ITC TRACECA is the containerization of goods. In particular, the Secretary General gave examples of different tariff rates in the TRACECA countries for the carriage of one container. The adoption of uniform through tariffs, the solution of challenging issues on the routes of the corridor, including on the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, will significantly increase container traffic on the TRACECA corridor.
“The issues of containerization of goods and digitalization of the corridor, the introduction of electronic transport documents along the TRACECA routes, transport safety, regulation of tariff policy issues, harmonization of conditions for simplifying border crossing procedures, and other significant development topics require joint cooperation, and Turkey is ready to assist in this area”, said the National Secretary of Turkey, Mr Aykan.
The Secretary General Assavbayev informed the NS of Turkey, Mr Aykan, on step-by-step actions in respect of deepening relations in the format of the EU-TRACECA and the EU-TRACECA countries.
“Relations with the EC need to be developed and maintained systematically and on a continuous basis,” A.A. Assavbayev noted.
The Turkish Party supports the PS aspirations for enlargement and interaction with the European Commission. For its part, the Turkish Party will make every effort to stimulate promising ideas, projects and initiatives for the development of the ITC TRACECA.
In addition, within the framework of the videoconference, Burak Aykan and A.A. Assavbaev discussed again the issues about the position of the Turkish Party on the STP Agreement, since the conversion of the documents into electronic format is a stimulus to further development of transportation.
The participants of the videoconference exchanged information on the need to increase the quota of the multilateral permits system, the possibility of the SG visit to the country to discuss problematic issues with carriers, associations in real time.
