Secretary General of PS IGC TRACECA Visits Baku International Sea Trade Port – Alat Port

The visit was organised as part of systemic initiatives to strengthen practical cooperation, develop international logistics infrastructure and enhance the capacity of the TRACECA transport corridor. During the visit, the delegation was given a detailed presentation on the port’s current operational activities, key cargo turnover indicators and prospective development projects. Particular attention was paid to the existing capacity of the complex, designed for an annual throughput of 15 million tonnes of cargo and 150,000 TEU, as well as to the infrastructure capabilities of the 40-hectare customs and warehousing zone, which includes 10,000 sq. m of covered warehouses.

Further to the visit, delegation members carried out a detailed technical inspection of key infrastructure facilities, including the general cargo terminal (7 berths, 7 million tonnes), the Ro-Ro terminal (2 berths, 1.8 million tonnes), the ferry terminal (2 berths, 6.2 million tonnes), as well as the port’s water area, cargo berths and shipping approaches.

During the talks, the sides discussed the deep integration of Alat Port into the multimodal routes of the TRACECA corridor, the digitalisation of logistics processes, the optimisation of ferry transport, and the coordination of joint action to enhance the region’s transit potential. Following the meeting, the sides confirmed their readiness to continue active cooperation and implement joint projects.

​​Baku International Sea Trade Port (Alat Port) is the largest multimodal logistics hub in the Caspian region, connecting international transport routes towards Türkiye and the EU, Central Asia, China, Japan, Iran, India, Russia and Northern Europe. The port serves as a key transshipment hub of the TRACECA corridor with a total capacity of 15 million tonnes of cargo per year, including 150,000 TEU of containers. The port’s infrastructure includes the general cargo terminal (7 berths, 7 million tonnes), the Ro-Ro terminal (2 berths, 1.8 million tonnes), the ferry terminal (2 berths, 6.2 million tonnes) and 2 service berths. Import and export operations are served by a 40-hectare customs control zone with 10,000 sq. m of covered warehouse space.
