TRACECA participates in the ESCAP Workshop on development of online tools on dry ports and their integration into multimodal chains

On 10-11 June 2025 in Almaty, Kazakhstan, in hybrid mode, there was organized the UN ESCAP Workshop on the development of online tools for dry ports and their integration into model transport. The workshop was one of the activities under a capacity-development project on “Strengthening performance, interconnections, and multimodal network integration of dry ports in the Asia-Pacific region”.

The representatives from transport ministries from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan participated at this event. Participants from international organizations included the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP), Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS); PS IGC TRACECA, Organisation for Co-operation between Railways (OSJD), United Nations Economic Commission for Europe – United Nations Centre for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business (UNECE–UN/CEFACT), and United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL). Around 30 participants joined the workshop (15 in-person and 15 online).

Participants from the countries presented national information on dry ports and multimodal transport that is relevant for the new ESCAP project. International organizations also elaborated on their initiatives on dry ports and multimodal transport that could contribute to preparing a new policy document in synergies and cooperation. The new ESCAP project also foresees the development of an online database on dry ports to promote their visibility in the project beneficiary countries. The participants also noted the need to work on digitalization, electronic information exchange, and the development of IT solutions that provide timely information to the stakeholders involved to facilitate and increase the efficiency of multimodal transport.

The representative of the PS IGC TRACECA provided an overview of the TRACECA multimodal transport initiatives such as the Agreement on development of multimodal transport, the Review of the multimodal transport legal framework, the Review of the measures taken to promote multimodal transport, the Concept for the development of container transport in TRACECA countries up to 2030, the Review of pilot transportation with the use of semi-trailers in multimodal transport, projects and initiatives towards digitalization, and the Review of bonded warehouses/zones.
