TRACECA took part in the EDB expert discussion “Seamless Eurasia: A Logistics Hub at the Crossroads of Continents”
On 25 June 2026, in Almaty (Republic of Kazakhstan), Mr. Jasurbek Choriev, Secretary General of the Permanent Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Commission TRACECA, took part in the Annual Meeting and Business Forum of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB).
The Forum gathered representatives of governments, international financial institutions, international organisations, the expert community and business to discuss the development of transport infrastructure, regional integration, the digitalisation of logistics, energy cooperation and the sustainable economic development of Eurasia.
Within the framework of the Forum, the Secretary General took part in the thematic session “Seamless Eurasia: A Logistics Hub at the Crossroads of Continents”, held in the format of an open discussion and dedicated to improving the efficiency of international transport corridors, introducing digital solutions and enhancing cooperation between states and international financial institutions.
Responding to the moderator's questions, Mr. Jasurbek Choriev noted that, alongside the development of transport infrastructure, the digital transformation of the transport sector, the harmonisation of legislation and the improvement of institutional cooperation are becoming increasingly important.
According to him, international financial institutions play an important role not only in financing infrastructure projects, but also in supporting the digitalisation of international transport, the implementation of pilot projects on cross-border electronic data exchange, the introduction of international standards and the development of the institutional capacity of TRACECA member states.
The Secretary General also noted that one of the new instruments for the practical implementation of such initiatives is the TRACECA Fund, established to support projects in the field of transport, digitalisation and increasing the efficiency of international transport. The Fund is expected to become a platform for attracting technical assistance and co-financing projects together with international financial institutions.
Particular attention during the discussion was paid to the interoperability of transport, customs and logistics information systems. In this regard, the Secretary General informed the participants about the work being carried out by TRACECA on preparing a draft Agreement on the application of electronic documents, which will allow for the creation of a unified legal space for the development of cross-border digital cooperation among the member states of the Organisation.
It was further pointed out that TRACECA implements joint projects with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the Organisation for Cooperation of Railways (OSJD), the International Rail Transport Committee (CIT), the International Road Transport Union (IRU) and other international partners on the application of electronic transport documents and the development of multimodal digital transport corridors.
Mr. Jasurbek Choriev underlined that the objective of TRACECA is not to create a new information system, but to ensure the interoperability of existing national platforms through the application of international data exchange standards and coordinated regional solutions.
For reference:
- TRACECA has been consistently developing cooperation with the Eurasian Development Bank. In 2024, the Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA also took part in the EDB Annual Meeting and Business Forum, where he presented the Organisation's initiatives for the development of regional transport connectivity, the improvement of international transport corridors and the development of multimodal transport. Participation in the 2026 Forum was a follow-up of TRACECA's constructive dialogue with the EDB and international financial institutions on the digital transformation of transport, the interoperability of information systems and the development of international transport corridors.
